The Mirror We Carry
The Mirror Within.
Life meets us in reflection.
We arrive inside a living mystery already unfolding, already whole, already beyond the
reach of our understanding. Life is a gift, and for this brief span of time, we are part of it.
And what we have arrived into is extraordinary.
There is a beauty here so vast that no single life could ever take all of it in. The sheer
abundance of life, the intricacy of it, the way everything has come into being and
continues becoming, can leave us standing in awe of the mystery of being here at all.
God. Spirit. Source. Whatever name we reach for.
God knows God’s own name.
The Thread Within
And within this life is the thread of life. It runs through each of us, not making us the
same, but joining us to the same mystery from which we came. We did not create the
thread. We do not own it. We belong to it.
Each of us carries a mirror, reflecting the Source from which we came.
Before it reflects anything to the world, it turns inward.
Within us is the capacity to recognize what is deeper than circumstance—the mystery
from which we came, the love that was here before we knew how to name it, the Source
beneath our becoming.
The mirror we carry stays with us, quietly drawing us toward the Source at the heart of
our life.
Often, an ordinary human life becomes an instrument through which the life of Source is
reflected into the world.
Here we are, sharing this Earth with these particular eight billion souls.
We belong to this human family.
What do we mean to one another?
Throughout history, humanity has been given the language of love.
2
The invitation to love one another has traveled from Source through generations. It runs
through the teachings of Jesus and through spiritual traditions far beyond any single
denomination or belief.
Perhaps this is why love keeps appearing at the center of the human story.
The same love we recognize in the beauty and mystery of life can move between us.
A precious human life gives the soul the chance to recognize love, receive it, and become
an expression of it in the world.
That unfolding takes place in a world capable of extraordinary beauty and extraordinary
harm. Hatred, cruelty, and division are part of what humanity reflects back to us too.
What we choose to turn toward shapes what our lives reflect—and what we give back to
the human family.
When Sorrow Deepens
And no human life moves through this world untouched by sorrow.
There are moments when sorrow becomes so deep that we lose our bearings, asking for
mercy, asking for an answer, unable to recognize the life we thought we understood.
We may not feel connected to Source.
And even when we are barely holding on, the thread holds.
Losing sight of the thread is not the same as losing the thread.
Mercy may still be present before we are able to recognize it.
What is deepest remains.
Source.
Love.
We cannot know what all of it means.
The Mirrors Around Us
But the mirrors are all around us, reflecting the life of Source back to us.
We recognize it in the love of another soul, in the extraordinary beauty of nature, and in
ordinary moments touched by mystery.
The love that gave us life.A
The gift of being here.
The mirror reminds us.
The thread reminds us where we belong.
And in moments of love, perhaps we recognize what has been there all along.
